Idle thoughts of a relatively libertarian Republican in Cambridge, MA, and whomever he invites. Mostly political.

Tuesday, August 29, 2006 :::
Speaking of the Viagra - birth control analogy, there's this comment on an obviously political ad for a "women's studies" class at Bucknell.
In case you aren't willing to click through, the ad says (give or take some formatting), "'In some states it is legal for insurance companies to pay for Viagra but not birth control pills.' What??? That just doesn't seem right to me." Maybe it's my libertarian instinct kicking in, but it seems to me they could have made that less stridently political by simply saying "some insurance plans pay for Viagra but not birth control pills," rather than mentioning legality. I would paraphrase the actual text as, "If you wish to deliberately, of your own free will, purchase a health plan that pays for Viagra but not birth control pills, some states won't crush you under a jackboot heel." But maybe that's just me.
