So here's the math: if 23 Republicans vote against a bill to deal with the short-term debt crisis and one (Boehner) abstains, the bill passes; for each additional Republican vote against, or for an additional abstention and each pair of abstentions thereafter, he needs a Democrat. The way I'm watching the talks going, I expect he and the President are going to be relying on some Democrats, but Boehner is certainly going to want as many Republican votes as he can get.
