Here's an amusing example of a story changing with repetition.
The gist is this: Sarah Palin and some of her family are in Haiti. An AP photographer snapped a shot of her daughter Bristol adjusting her hair. The caption read that Sarah Palin "had her hair done" not mentioning who the "doer" was. A couple of celebrity news sites (well the Daily Mail probably thinks it's a serious news site, but it's British) turned that into, effectively, "Sarah Palin flies a hairdresser to Haiti with her."
