Idle thoughts of a relatively libertarian Republican in Cambridge, MA, and whomever he invites. Mostly political.

- This has been making the rounds: a lot of the conventional wisdom regarding study habits is wrong. In particular, retention of material is greater when the material has been studied in a variety of locations and studying several related topics in the same sitting seems to be more effective than focusing on a single topic at a time.
- The songstress known as Lady Gaga showed up to an awards ceremony last weekend wearing a dress made of meat. She appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show with a cryptic explanation in the midst of which she proclaimed, "I, as you know, am the most judgment-free human being on Earth."
"The most ... on Earth" is probably an exaggeration, but I, for one, am unlikely to accuse someone wearing a meat-dress of having judgment. - The writer of the Happy Days episode in which Fonzie jumps the shark defends his work.
- I seem to be getting in the habit of backing up Glenn Beck. His cri de coeur opposing book/flag burning isn't exactly must-read — there's nothing in it that wouldn't have occurred to you — but it is praiseworthy.
- This Michael Lewis piece on Greek culture and finances is long, but interesting and entertaining. About half of it centers on a monastery; I recommend skipping past most of that.
