Idle thoughts of a relatively libertarian Republican in Cambridge, MA, and whomever he invites. Mostly political.

A few days ago, the (New York) Daily News endorsed Andrew Cuomo for Governor, which is notable because there is an arguably competitive - contentious, anyway - Republican primary yet to take place and the Daily News doesn't automatically endorse the Democrat all of the time. Very little of the editorial is about Cuomo; it's mostly about the alternatives.
Based on what I've seen of the race (which isn't, I confess, a lot), I agree that Cuomo is the best candidate. I said last week that I would probably vote for Lazio in the primary, but I'm now inclined to leave that line blank and hope Lazio (the probable winner) gives me a reason to vote for him in the general election. What I've heard from Cuomo has been supportive of lowering taxes and shrinking the role of Albany. I'm very skeptical - his last decade and a half of actions belie his words - but as a small-government Republican, I have a long history of voting for candidates who talk about shrinking the size of government without delivering; voting for Cuomo wouldn't be much of a stretch.Labels: Andrew Cuomo, Rick Lazio
