Idle thoughts of a relatively libertarian Republican in Cambridge, MA, and whomever he invites. Mostly political.

Permit me to take credit for something.

Last week, someone at the White House said they wouldn't be cooperating with Fox News because it's "not a real news organization". Well, they do have O'Reilly and Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck and a few other opinion shows. But Chris Wallace's and Brett Baier's shows are fair, fact-oriented shows which, unlike CNN's attempted news shows, are more likely to fact-check their own reporting than Saturday Night Live sketches.

But this is actually a bit unfair: Beck's show is heavily biased, and nobody claims otherwise, but he has broken some stories that had previously been ignored, most notably Van Jones.

Which, as Rich Lowry pointed out a New York Times story this morning mentioned. Lowry summarized:
This New York Times account today confirms that what most bothered the White House about Fox is that it caused inconvenient reporting by other news organizations. Can't have that!
I emailed my — if I do say so myself — pithier version, which he included as an update:
In other words, their problem is not that Fox isn't a real news organization, their problem is that it is.
Which line Instapundit has now picked up.

Incidentally, Charles Krauthammer also has a good column on the White House's war on Fox.
