Idle thoughts of a relatively libertarian Republican in Cambridge, MA, and whomever he invites. Mostly political.

I saw a few moderately-highly-placed stories yesterday saying that cancer researcher Judah Folkman had died. I had two reactions to this: one, that I've never heard of him, and, two, that we should honor people who make sizable contributions to cancer research, at least as much as we honor politicians and celebrities. I wish I had known his name, and I wish I would know his name three months from now.

Derek Lowe can tell you what he did. May you or I do something a tenth as worthwhile with our days on Earth.

Huh. He was pretty hyped up several years ago; I don't know that, if you had asked me, "What's the name of the guy who was going to cure cancer by blocking angiogenisis?" that I would have been able to come up with the name, but when I saw the name I remembered who he was.

I say we should say we should honor people who make contributions to cancer research and other medical research MORE than we do celebrities and politicians.
