Barack Obama has said that, unlike Hillary Clinton, he hasn't been running for president for the last decade and a half. Hillary Clinton has called him on this, citing essays he wrote in kindergarten and third grade. When I heard this, I had the same reaction most people had — "that's stupid."
It seemed more understandable when I saw some more context. The grade-school essays came at the end of a backward progression (a regression?) of testimony from various acquaintances of Obama over the years saying he wanted to be president. In that context, they fit in. She could have made her point without them, and would obviously have been better off doing so, but a lot of the discussion I've seen has implied that her refutation of his claim not to have been seeking the office for years rests on something he wrote when he was eight, and that's not the case.
