Local conventional wisdom, as I understand it, is that New Hampshire has been getting more liberal and more Democratic as people move there from Massachusetts. These people move to New Hampshire because they want to escape the high taxes etc., but then they start voting to have the public services they're used to.
Apparently, it's not true (not that one study necessarily settles a matter, but I'm giving it more weight than the story I've heard). New Hampshire is becoming more Democratic in part because the Republicans have become corrupt big-spenders and in part because of liberals moving in from other states; the Massachusetts transplants are keeping it more Republican.
I'm more worried about the transplants, BTW; if New Hampshire sends Democrats to Washington, but they're ideologically in sync with the kind of Republicans New Hampshire has sent to Washington, it doesn't make much of a difference to me. I do hope they return Sununu, who is not a corrupt big-spender.
