I've heard rumors that John Edwards and Barack Obama have serious policy proposals, but when I hear them speak, this is the sort of thing that usually comes out. All politicians simplify their proposals for populist-sounding soundbites, of course. And, now that I consider this, maybe it's unfair to hold Edwards in too much contempt simply for throwing the word "instantly" where it didn't belong in spoken communication. But their thinking has seemed unusually simplistic, even for politicians giving speeches.
Actually, Bill Richardson has been also loopier than I had anticipated (for example).
