The Seattle Times has an article about the fact that young North Koreans are exceptionally short. Dark stuff, but there was one excerpt that actually made me laugh:"Grow taller!" instruct banners hung in some schoolyards, defectors and aid workers say.That strikes me as just so typical of the authoritarian mindset. "Our policies are causing our people to be undersized; how can we solve this problem?" "Let's just tell them to grow taller." It appears that the North Koreans have never heard of King Canute. |
