David Broder writesveteran Republicans in such battleground states as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois Knock it off. Let's go over this one more time: Illinois is not a battleground state. Fifteen years ago, sure, but in 2000 Gore won it by 19% of the vote while losing the general election. If Illinois becomes a battleground state, this will not be, as Broder asserts at the top, "almost certainly a close election".
