A friend writes from Cambodia:On the night of January 29th, a motley crew of rioters sacked, burned, and looted the Thai Embassy along with several other Thai-owned business across Phnom Penh. These actions came in response to comments allegedly made by a Thai soap opera actress calling for Angkor Wat to be returned to the Thais. The comments, which were later shown to be wholly fabricated, sparked a wave of anti-Thai sentiment and some good ole opportunistic looting thrown in for good measure. A press picture showing a "protester" shouting anti-Thai slogans while carting off three DVD players basically sums up the story. |
