Idle thoughts of a relatively libertarian Republican in Cambridge, MA, and whomever he invites. Mostly political.

This piece on the difference between tax-hike driven austerity (as exemplified by the UK) and government spending cut driven austerity (as exemplified by Estonia) is interesting, though I would like to see cumulative charts -- from the annual-change graphs provided, it looks like Estonia had a bad 2009 and the subsequent outperformance may just be catch-up. If you want something based on more data than a single comparison, this Mankiw blog entry provides some leads.
