On Friday, AAA said that almost two-thirds of service stations in New York City and New Jersey are still closed, mostly because they lack the electricity to run the pumps.
Does anyone know whether New Jersey price gouging laws would allow a station that bought a generator to raise its prices? It seems likely to me that 50 cents a gallon would be enough to recover costs on this, though I may have no particular sense of the realistic cost — or whether motorists would be understanding. I would think they would be at this point, especially if there were signs posted explaining the cost they were passing along.
