Instapundit notes:GEORGE ALLEN'S CAMPAIGN looks to be floundering, but they're up by five percent in the latest poll. I think the reason for this is pretty clear: Jim Webb.
Back in the spring, there was one point at which I referred to the 2006 election as the "hot potato" election. It seemed that every few weeks, one party would seem to be quite likely to control the next Congress, and an important representative of that party would, apparently panicked by the idea, do something monumentally dumb to throw the advantage back to the other side.
I've been seeing less of this recently, Menendez notwithstanding. But the Virginia Senate race has kept pace. I wish I were able to follow more closely; what I've seen has been hilarious.
