When I heard the phrase "addicted to oil" in the State of the Union address, it didn't stick out. It's hyperbolic, of course, and simple, and a bit melodramatic, and ultimately pretty shallow. It is, in other words, the sort of phrase one expects from the State of the Union.
And policy-wise, cutting consumption by 25% over the next 20 years seems ambitious, but I do support some incentives to avoid oil's use beyond the cost of exploration and production.
But after hearing the phrase repeatedly over the last few days, and being forced to dwell on it, I would like to never hear it again, please.
