Idle thoughts of a relatively libertarian Republican in Cambridge, MA, and whomever he invites. Mostly political.

Joanne Jacobs will be pushing her book in Boston in a couple weeks. She wants people to let her know if they can attend; I wish I didn't have to decide ahead of time.
She also has this story on charter schools in Boston. The teachers' union wants the district to send out letters to parents of charter school kids trying to attract them to the district-run schools. Charter schools are okay with that, as long as they can recruit at district-run schools.
Also an amusing anecdote about Bush and the daughters of Margaret Spellings. And a lot of people in the comments arguing (well, asserting) that Secretaries of Education should be former teachers. Also, the sanitation commissioner should be a former garbage collector.
